In a strong positive initiative, Rajasthan’s Jaipur prison has built fuel pumps on jail premises at six locations across the state, being run by jail inmates. Rajeev Dasot, DG (prisons) stated, “The initiative is to promote skill development and make jail dept self-reliant.” He also said, “Over 100 prisoners are working at fuel pumps built on jail premises at six locations across the state.”
He added, “We’ll open pumps at 12 locations in next phase. Prisoners working here are trained and receive Rs 249 per day salary that gets transferred to their bank accounts. At Jaipur pump, we registered a sale of Rs 1 crore last month, target is Rs 3 crore a month.”
The Rajasthan police are also pouring in a lot of input to help with this very fortifying endeavor. This initiative will be providing an opportunity for the prisoners to earn money. The revenue generated through the fuel pumps will also be used for the infrastructure and development of the prison.
