The Union Health Ministry states 20 lakh people received the COVID-19 vaccine in a single day yesterday.  At present, there are 77 fatalities, India’s death toll rises to 1,57,930.  It is now the 349th day since India carried out a nationwide lockdown to help control the spread of the noxious coronavirus pandemic.

At present, India has recorded 1,12,44,786 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,57,930 deaths. Per data, approximately 1,08,99,394 people have recovered from the virus to date. There are 1,87,462 active cases which contain 1.67 percent of the total caseload.

India’s recovery rate continues to rise standing at 96.93 percent. Over the globe, more than 11.69 crore people have been infected by the virus, and 27.21 lakh have lost their lives to the battle with coronavirus.

India has begun the second phase of the vaccination drive in which everyone above 60 years of age and those over 45 years with comorbidities will be able to get the COVID-19 vaccine. In some states, senior citizens above 60 are getting the vaccine free.

The vaccines, Covishield (The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is being manufactured locally by the Serum Institute of India) and Covaxin (by Bharat Biotech is developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) – National Institute of Virology) are effective and it is said the elderly are preferring Covishield over Covaxin.
