New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, 88, and his wife 83 Gursharan Kaur took the first dose of the Indian vaccine developed by Bharat Bharat Biotech, Covaxin in AIIMS today, Thursday, March 4, 2021.

Covaxin studies reveal that the vaccine is 81 percent effective and at par with other global frontrunners.

Doctors and medical institutes in India have cautioned the terminally ill and weak on the vaccine risks.  Norway reports a vaccination risk for terminally ill patients, and sick patients over 80.

Per the Norwegian Institute of Public Health statement, “For those with the most severe frailty, even relatively mild vaccine side effects can have serious consequences,” They also said, “For those who have a very short remaining life span anyway, the benefit of the vaccine may be marginal or irrelevant.”

Therefore, the terminally ill patients, fragile people and older generations would need to take the vaccine with caution.
