In a surprising move, AIADMK leader V. K. Sasikala quits politics just before Tamil Nadu Assembly polls

IndiaIn a surprising move, AIADMK leader V. K. Sasikala quits politics just before Tamil Nadu Assembly polls

On Wednesday, the close aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa stated that she is quitting politics. This announcement came hours after the AIADMK decided against including Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam party into their alliance with the BJP.

She admonished the AIADMK party to stay united to ensure “Amma’s golden rule in Tamil Nadu” by preventing their “common enemy”—the DMK, from coming to power in Tamil Nadu after 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls set for April 6.

Earlier, Sasikala was imprisoned for four years at a Bengaluru Central Jail, Parappana Agrahara in a disproportionate assets case and was released on January 27, 2021.  Just before her release, she tested positive for COVID-19.  She was admitted to Victoria Hospital on January 21 and was formally released from the hospital on January 27, 2021

After she declared quitting politics, sources say she will also stay away from public life.
