Abid Aziz Dar was 18 years, son of Abdul Aziz of Watlab, Sopore, and took his life in his home on Tuesday afternoon, February 16, 2021.
The tragedy occurred in Sopore, Kashmir, Watlab area of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla where his family members found him in his room hanging. They rushed him to the Community Health Center, SDH Sopore where the doctor proclaimed him dead on arrival.
In the meantime, the police have registered a case for the incident, postpartum is being done and further investigations are underway.
In recent times, suicide cases are rising among the young. Kashmir has witnessed 12 suicides in a span of 28 days, as reported by Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Dr. Majid Shafi, a government psychiatrist, said that last year he saw a hundred patients a week. Now he sees more than 500.
Starting measures for boosting mental health preventions would be imperative.
