HealthOne more farmer, Shamsher Singh sacrificed his life after a 5-day dharna against black farm laws

Shamsher Singh, 45 years old, sacrificed his life for the three black laws.  He was a resident of Lidhra village in Punjab’s Sangrur district.   He was an active part of the protests at the Tikri border.

Shamsher went on a 5-day dharna and had complained of chest pain on Sunday morning, and further deteriorated today. He was shifted to the general hospital where he died.  Farmer Karam Singh established that Shamsher had come to the dharna site five days ago according to a police official.  The police officer said that the cause of his death could only be established after post-mortem.

Thousands of farmers from different parts of India including Haryana and Punjab have been camping at various border points of Delhi for more than a month now to demand a repeal of the three recent farm laws of the Centre.

In a revolutionary move, millions have been protesting since 9 August 2020.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda urged the Centre to accept the farmers’ demands.

The Congress leader on talking to the media in Sonipat said the situation has become “worrisome.”  He was concerned about the protesting farmers that died in the last 24 hours.

The farmers were enraged over the death of the protesters and raised slogans against the government in the general hospital at Sonepat.

In the recent deaths are Shamsher Singh (around 45 years of age), a resident of Lidhra village in Punjab’s Sangrur district, Jashandeep Singh (18), a resident of Chauke village in Punjab’s Bathinda district, and Jagbir Singh (60), a resident of Jind in Haryana, the police said.

Nineteen farmers have died at the Singhu border over the past two months, and it is estimated over 200 farmers have sacrificed their lives since the beginning of the protest.

The farmers’ protest is the largest one in world history!
