EconomyAfter airports, government now wants to privatize ports as well: Congress

After handing over (Privatization of) some airports of the country to “their” industrialist friends, now the ports appear to be privatized too

New Delhi: Indian National Congress (INC) Party alleged today that after the government handed over some of the country’s airports to its industrialist friends, and now the country’s major ports are also going to be privatized.

Shakti Singh Gohil of the Congress party started the debate on ‘Major Ports Authority Bill 2020‘ in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, saying that many issues were not taken into consideration while drafting the bill.

Mr. Gohil said that the bill had been referred to the standing committee of Parliament and the Committee had also submitted its report, but due to the dissolution of the Lok Sabha, the bill has been withdrawn.

He said it was unfortunate that the recommendations of the standing committee were not included in the reproduced bill. Therefore, the Bill should be sent back to the Standing Committee and all possibilities regarding privatization of ports should be removed.
