The aftereffects of the devastating situation emancipated by the collapse of a natural glacier in Chamoli on Sunday continue Monday morning, where about 170 people have been reported missing so far.

Chamoli / Dehradun: The situation in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district due to the breakdown of the natural glacier on Sunday has still been in chaos till Monday morning where about 170 people have been reported missing so far. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) resumed tunneling work this morning.

SDRF commander Nonit Bhahler said that the passage inside the tunnel is still closed due to debris which JCB is trying to reopen. He said that an unknown body was found in the Alaknanda River near Bela village.

Mr. Bhahler said that the Vishnu Prayag bridge connecting the India-China border has been destroyed. He said that about 170 people have been reported missing so far.

The missing people include 22 from the Ban Ganga project and 148 people from the NTPC project. A total of 10 bodies have been recovered so far, while 12 people have been rescued with the help of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

He said 8 people were injured, while 30 were trapped inside the tunnel, which is being tried to evacuate. Meanwhile, a body has also been recovered from the Alaknanda River.
