Congress leader Digvijay Singh said that the law relating to sedition dates back to British rule and should not be (mis)used in modern India

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday demanded the withdrawal of the recently registered cases against journalists, politicians, and social workers.

Mr. Singh demanded the withdrawal of recently filed cases against journalists, politicians, and social workers for sedition during zero hours in the House. similar FIRs have registered been against four or five people in three states. He said, “There is some conspiracy behind it.”

The Congress leader said that the law relating to sedition dates back to the British era and should not be used (or misused) in modern India. He said that these cases should be withdrawn.

It is noteworthy that the government has recently registered an FIR against the leader Shashi Tharoor and several key journalists and social activists for sedition and other law.
