Beijing: Several former law experts and opposition leaders were arrested in Hong Kong on Wednesday morning on suspicion of violation of the National Security Act in Hong Kong.

This is the biggest police action ever taken by the Chinese government since the National Security Law was enacted last year.

According to a CNN report, those arrested participated in local elections last July and performed for pro-democracy candidates before the provincial elections in September.

Those arrested also include former Democratic Party law experts James Two, Andrew Wan, and Lam Cheuk-ting, who were members of the Legislative Council until the end of last year.
