WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has expressed disappointment that China is yet to finalize permissions for the members of the international team of experts, constituted for studying the origins of the coronavirus, to enter the country.

.Tokyo: The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adnam Ghebius said that China is yet to finalize permissions for the members of the international team of experts (constituted for studying the origins of the coronavirus) to enter the country.

Mr. Tedros said in the tweet, “Today we learned that Chinese officials have not yet finalised the necessary permissions for the team’s arrival in #China. I am very disappointed with this news given that two members had already begun their journeys & others were not able to travel at the last minute @DrTedros”

Mr. Tedros said the team would investigate the genesis of the coronavirus in China and find out what had happened during the early pandemic in the country.

He said that he has appealed to the Chinese authorities to ensure China’s entry into the team so that the mission can start at the earliest. “We are in touch with senior Chinese officials and we have once again made it clear that the mission is a priority for the WHO and the international team,” he said.

He has expressed disappointment that China is yet to finalize permissions for the members of the international team of experts, constituted for studying the origins of the coronavirus, to enter the country.

Dr. Tedros added that he had strongly urged Chinese officials to ensure the team’s entry into their country so that the mission can start as soon as possible

He twitted, “But I’ve been in contact with senior Chinese officials & I have once again made clear that the mission is a priority for WHO & the international team.”

The investigation team would investigate the origins of the coronavirus and what transpired during the early stages of the outbreak in the country.
