The total number of the new coronavirus strain in India rose to 20, with 14 more people detected with the new virus strain

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry said that the UK returnees’ swab samples, who came between November 25 and December 23 and were tested positive for the virus, were sent to different labs of Insacog for further investigation.

With 14 more people tested positive for the new coronavirus strain, which was first found in Britain, the total number of such cases in India rose to 20, the government said on Wednesday morning.

So far, 6 out of 10 labs have tested the swabs. The highest eight samples tested positive in Delhi– eight in NCDC, Delhi & one in IGIB, Delhi– followed by seven samples in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, two in CCMB, Hyderabad, one in NIV, Pune and one in NIBG, Kalyani (West Bengal).

Last week, India had temporarily banned flights from and to the United Kingdom till 31st December. On Tuesday, the government had said that 6 people were detected with the new strain.

New form of Covid enters Telangana

A new coronavirus has entered Telangana. CCMB scientists have identified a person from Warangal who is infected with a new form of coronavirus introduced in the UK.

Health department officials have also confirmed the matter and it was supposed to be announced by the central government. According to sources, the person who has got infected with the Coronavirus strain arrived in Warangal from the UK in the second week of December and was examined on 24 December.

Fetal samples, being Covid positive, were sent to CCMB because he tested positive. CCMB scientists revealed that the person has been infected with the coronavirus spreading rapidly in Britain. It is learned that samples of this person were sent to Virology Lab in Pune. His mother also tested positive for Coronavirus but is a common form of the virus.

Close relatives of the victims also in quarantine

According to the Ministry of Health, those tested positive have been isolated in health care centers set up by the respective governments where they are being treated. His close relatives are also kept in home isolation. Simultaneously, efforts are being made to identify the traveling people.

The ministry said the situation is under control and states were regularly advised to increase surveillance, prevent epidemics, conduct inspections, and send samples to the INSACOG laboratory.
