Health'What if a drug contains prohibited substance and there's no alternative': Maulana Khalid Rashid

Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahalli has said it is illegal in Islam to take decisions on rumors. “How can something be called haram (illegal) or halal (legal) without any substantial proof,” he questioned.

Lucknow: Amid alleged opposition from fringe elements of Muslims over the Covid vaccine, Sunni cleric Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahalli has said that the safety of life in Islam is of utmost importance. Maulana Khalid Rashid has said that if any drug contains a haraam substance and there is no alternative to protect life, it can be taken.

He said today that it is illegal in Islam to take decisions on rumors. “How can something be called haram (illegal) or halal (legal) without any substantial proof,” he questioned. “Those who call Covid vaccine harem should also tell from which doctor or medical expert they have obtained the information,” he added.

I appeal to everyone not to spread rumors about the Coronavirus vaccine as done in the case of the polio vaccine. I request Muslims to wait for the vaccine and consult with a medical and pharmaceutical expert for detail

Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahalli

He said that the safety of life is considered the most important in Islam. Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace be upon him) has commanded to take care of patients through medical and medicinal treatment. The coronavirus has killed millions of people worldwide. There is no treatment for this disease as of now.

If a drug contains some haraam substance and there is no alternative to save a life, it is legal, according to Islamic jurisprudence, to be taken or consumed. He appealed to everyone not to spread rumors about the Coronavirus vaccine as done in the case of the polio vaccine. He urged the people, particularly those of the Muslim community, to wait for the vaccine and consult with a medical and pharmaceutical expert for detail.
