Apex Court allowed and granted Perarivala’s parole plea to go to the hospital. His lawyer complained to the Apex Court that he was not provided a police escort for a medical visit.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday extended the parole granted to one of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convicts by a week on health grounds. A bench of the Apex Court said, “We extend the parole to the petitioner (A G Perarivalan), by a week.”

The Court allowed and granted Perarivala’s parole plea to go to the hospital. His lawyer complained to the Apex Court that he was not provided a police escort for a medical visit. Then, the Apex Court directed the police to escort him.

The Court bench led by Justice Rao, in its interim order, extended the parole of Perarivalan, for a week, after hearing his plea. The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), which is the investigating agency in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, had already informed the Top Court that it has no role in it, as the issue is between the Tamil Nadu Governor and the convict.

The parole of one of the convicts, Perarivalan, in the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, was scheduled to end on November 23. However, the Apex Court bench, headed by Justice L Nageshwara Rao, extended it for a week, till December 1, due to his health. He is said to have to visit the hospital for the same.
