New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday expressed its concern over the dreaded outbreak of Coronavirus in various states of the country including Delhi and demanded a report from all the states.
Hearing a petition on Covid, a bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice MR Shah said that the rapid rise in corona cases was reported from across the country. The situation in Delhi has become dangerous in the last two weeks.
The court said that given the scary situation of the Coronavirus case, all states have been directed to submit a fresh report on the Coronavirus infection and the steps being taken for it.
Demand for the latest status report on patient management from Delhi government
During the hearing, Justice Bhushan asked the Delhi government how it was handling the situation and how the Covid patients were being treated. Do Delhi’s hospitals have enough beds for patients?
In response, the Delhi government’s counsel said that beds have been reserved for corona patients in all hospitals in Delhi. The bench then asked the Delhi government to present an updated report on the situation regarding patient management.
Meanwhile, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the central government, admitted that the Delhi government had a lot to do with handling the Covid cases. He said that the Union Home Minister (Amit Shah) had a meeting in this regard on November 13 and issued several instructions.
The court, while adjourning the hearing till Friday, directed all the states including Delhi to present the latest report on the status of infection. The bench said that, if the state governments are not fully prepared, the situation may become more dangerous in December.
